The right bathroom design for you & your home – Traditional, Modern/Contemporary or Luxury

22 July 2015

The bathroom plays a vital role in almost everyone’s daily routine and yet far too many people settle for an unimaginative standard 3 piece suite.

Your home is your own and it is often an interior reflection of your style preferences and personality. Furthermore different environments can have an enormous effect on your mood, so you should give careful thought to the atmosphere you’re creating in this fundamental room.

To feel at your best, you should give careful consideration to the interior design of your home in general, but it is especially important in the bathroom as the ‘place of escape’ to relax and unwind after a hard day’s work.

The fundamental element of any bathroom’s style is always its suite: this is what will define the space therefore is it essential to choose wisely. Other aspects such as lighting and colouring simply build on the style outlined by the features and shapes of your bathroom suite.

There are three main styles in bathroom design – traditional, modern/contemporary and luxury. But which is best for you and your home?

Traditional bathrooms – the timeless classic

The essence of sophistication and elegance the design of a traditional bathroom is brought together using a number of inspirational styles that have really stood the test of time.

Traditional means established, historic and trusted which should be reflected in the design of a traditional themed bathroom suite. Popular period styles include Georgian, Victorian & Edwardian.

A typical 21st century traditional bathroom suite often includes a freestanding bath with bath/shower mixer or separate shower enclosure, low-mid-high rise toilet and a pedestal basin or wall hung basin inclusive of wash stand.

Modern bathrooms – the heart of a contemporary home

Modern often means minimalistic therefore the decorative accessories contribute to the overall look and feel of this space as much as the suite itself. Most bathrooms include 1 or 2 statement features which should reflect and categorise the style and theme you are wanting to achieve however in a modern bathroom the statement feature is minimalism.

Modern must haves usually include a free standing acrylic bath (acrylic is easy to mould and manipulate into various shapes, sizes and styles) or a simplistic wet floor shower – it is not often you find both in the same room. Double his & hers vanity basins and a back to wall hung toilet with hidden cistern & pipework.

Luxury bathrooms – a simply stunning suite

The secret ingredient to creating the ultimate luxury bathroom is in the design – these suites are skilfully tailored right down to the very finest detail, engineered to suit your lifestyle and personal taste. A luxury bathroom should be unique.

Key features will include a spa-whirl pool / free standing bath, separate walk-in/wet floor shower, his and hers basin’s, WC - preferably back to wall/closed couple and a bidet. Bright lighting, the use of mirrors and appropriate tiling (usually fully tiled) are all essential luxury design elements that will give your bathroom the clean and elegant look it craves. Experimentation with rich, opulent colours for a bold and dramatic tone are key and will make your luxury bathroom really come to life.
