Easy Access Shower Room Case Study | Harrogate | North Yorkshire

Published: 31 January 2019

Problem:

Mr & Mrs Hughes lived in a third floor flat which was built approximately twenty years previous. Having not done anything to the bathroom in that time, the existing space, which housed a bath shower mixer, closed couple WC and over mounted vanity basin, was starting to feel a little dated and in need of some TLC.

Featuring patterned wall paper the small space was made to feel even smaller due to the cluttered appearance, a result of a significant lack in storage in the existing design. Conscious they were not getting any younger a core focus of the project, and a problem that had to be overcome, was the logical requirement of a stylish and future proofed solution.

Solution:

In conjunction with the requirement of an easy access solution, another key focus was the necessity to include ample amounts of bathroom storage in the updated design. Aside from these two factors both Mr & Mrs Hughes were more than happy to let More Bathrooms Surveyor & Designer, Garry, lead the discussions, offering a professional, knowledgeable and experienced opinion on what could be done in the small space.

With a concrete floor to contend with it was discovered very early on that it would not be possible to incorporate a level access shower into the room due to the installation requirement of sinking these into the floor to make them flush. Instead Garry proposed the next best thing, a low profile shower tray that would sit slightly higher but still offer an easy access solution.

Outcome:

A small, cluttered and difficult to use bathroom was transformed into an easy access shower room that featured an array of bathroom storage solutions. Opting for a smaller, yet functional, shower tray meant a full height bespoke storage housing could be created offering one of three storage solutions. Back in the shower area a stylish corian bench was built to offer a more comfortable, relaxing and safe experience.

To give the room a clean, clear and maintenance free feel a half height wall was built to conceal all pipework and the cistern. Mounted here was a large wall hung vanity basin unit and a wall hung WC, which opened up the floor area and provided an illusion of space. Fully wall boarded for a no grout appeal the room was finished in a complimentary dark grey vinyl which brought all the other elements together.

What mr & mrs hughes said about More Bathrooms:

“We are writing to let you know how pleased we are with our new bathroom. It has turned out exactly as we wanted. The care and attention we received from your firm has been exceptional. You have gone far beyond what would be seen as normal expectation.

From our first visit to the Harrogate showroom, through the design stage and on to the fitting we received great care, courtesy and kindness. Every person we had dealings with has been equally helpful and understanding of our needs and desires. What you have achieved for us is worth all the money and we have been pleased to show off our new bathroom to others. This bathroom will set us up as we grow older.

A special thank you to Garry who made sure we were completely happy with our order by driving us to the Leeds showroom and home again so that we could see what we wanted in situ. Also thanks must go to our fitter, Andy, faced with a third floor flat along with all the constraints of space – he did brilliantly!”
